Concerns for new album sales should be like trying to create a fire for your survival.
Tell me which you would like more: a searing blaze of that flares up one minute and gone the next OR a nice bed of coals of continuous simmering heat that lasts for days?
Why should first week record sales be any different? If you can’t sustain past the first week or those few after, does it really matter anymore?
